Un-perfection is key

Recently, I’ve been thinking about how wrong I have been doing things in my life.  Oddly enough, it actually started by thinking about video games.  When I play video games I rarely get myself to finish them because in the end I strive for perfection in the things I actually do.  Which I guess is why I rarely do things.  Using Final Fantasy 7 as an example, I didn’t beat this game until 3 years later after I had started the game.  I had decided to restart the game multiple times to strive for “the perfect game” which turned out to be the problem and the true root of my problems.  Translating this into my real life it all makes perfect since.  Whenever I have gone to school or tried to do anything I always try to do it perfectly by reading every line, never following the study skills I’ve been taught.  Usually, I was told that I should use the study guides or notes to decide what to focus on the most.  I would always try to memorize everything about the class without focusing on the things that my instructors told me mattered.  The problem with this surfaces when I get about halfway to three fourths of the way through the quarter and fall behind.  If I take a different approach will it all change? Will I be able to finish the classes?  We shall see.

Until I get back into school however, which should be pretty soon, I have decided to practice a new approach at life, starting with what I do the most.  Playing video games.  From now on I plan on just playing through the story-line without trying to do every side-quest and kill every extra boss.  This stuff I will save for the second play through.  Hopefully, if I can get myself to follow this strategy in something like games I will also be able to follow it in school and life.

First Boss Encounter

So today I was blessed with the opportunity to meet one of the “higher ups” in Burger King.  This experience was about the same as every other… district manager encounter that I’ve ever experienced.  It began with me walking into work and not knowing what was going on.  Walking behind the counter, clocking in, and then BAM!  DOTHISDOTHATDOTHISDOTHAT!  Like a fucking hurricane, you have no clue what’s going on.  Then the manager runs around like she’s having a seizure and yells at everyone.  Then I realized someone high up must be coming.

Analyzing this I wonder why people react like this.  You can only try your hardest and you are more likely to mess it all up when you freak out.  The guy coming to visit is just another person doing his job.  He has to eat, sleep, shit, and go home to his family the same as anyone else.  He’s just a person.  Unfortunately, I am an empath so I feel what people around me feel and I am susceptible to their moods.  So at this point I’m angry, worried, disconcerted, hopeless, lost and curious all at the same time which is very confusing.  Suffice to say it was a very fun day at work.

Alternately I was able to come home and… damn… not much.  Well work was amusing, I got to see my manager do the nervous boss dance.

Sidelife

So as a way to start up with that whole “writing thing” Henrii and I have decided to start a few side-projects to get ourselves active again.  Basically we are going to create a whole bunch of blogs about random crap that interests us and go with it.  Good luck and godspeed if you stick with us.

But seriously here are two:

Ookamidia – in the form of letters we are going to talk about and review anything that is in the media.  Books, Movies, Games, etc.  Comments are welcome.  Hopefully we can get some interesting topics going on there.

Yet to be named weird poem project thingy – Basically Henrii came to me with this idea of getting people together to write poetry together.  There is a japanese form of poetry called renga that I guess a compilation of people’s poem segments.  If you are interested in joining up let me know because after we get it going we want to bring more people  in.  He says that there are some that get up to 1,000 stanza’s. You can learn how to write Renga at this link.

Eventually I would like to get a short story writing project/writing club going.  A book club would be kind of nice.

Sleepy Time

Gaming Addiction: Episode 2

So I’ve been reading and watching a lot of the E3 footage over the past two days and I must say I’m kind of excited about the new stuff comming out. Playstation 3 will finally be releasing their playstation home program, which I will love greatly. I like the idea of making an avatar that I can run around and meet people with. Along with that the full trailer of final fantasy 13 is now out… no release date though. That kinda sucks.

And so many games are porting over to the xbox 360 or wii. Oh well, Ive already decided I need to buy a 360 anyway because of Lost Odyssey. But I’m still happey with my playstation 3, there are some very good games comming out for it later. Anyways back to hanging out and such. I’ll post later.

Wall-Market

Last night was fun, I got to see my friend Josh get drunk off of our brand new concoction. Apparently if you are bored, someone says something on accident, and you actually listen you can make a brand new drink.

Robyn – “Do you guys want anything to drink?”

Josh – “Sure ill have some Jack and grape juice…”

Robyn – “Really?”

so apparently its actually pretty good. It tastes like candy.

On another note, I had my final interview at Wal-mart today, and while it feels like I’m making a step down in the world I plan on trying to make the best of it. I will use this as an opportunity to work out the other aspects of my life.

Off to go take my drug test!!!!

Airtran Airways

Real quickly I would like to add something based on part of the previous post. I mentioned that I recently lost my job at Airtran Airways. I feel it important to mention that, while the reasons are unimportant, that I have no anger towards Airtran Airways. I in fact plan on flying them many times in the future as they are in fact cheaper than a good deal of airlines.

Even though I am no longer employed with them and have no obligation to do this, I will anyway to stay professional.

“None of the views expressed in the past or in the future of this blog reflect any views or beliefs of Airtran Airways. Anything I mention about Airtran Airways is my own personal view and any activities discussed that happened while I was employed at Airtran Airways are just that, individual activities and in no way express the views of Airtran Airways.”

There, legal mumbo jumbo out of the way. Just to explain. It was part of the policy while working there that we had to post something to that effect. Since I will still be mentioning people that work their in the future I wanted to post this to cover my friends if i do indeed mention them or their employment in the future.

New Beginnings

So anyone who has read my previous blogs knows how bad I am at posting frequently, but I plan to change that with this one. I want to start a new beginning in which I keep in touch with friends more, hang out, post my view, and organize myself better. This will be my medium for this goal.

What does this blog stand for?

This blog is me which means that I will probably be posting a lot of movie, book, game, music, and anime reviews.

I plan on posting some of my original writing on this site too.

Other than that I will be posting my views on current issues and big, and some small, events that happen in my life. The usual blog stuff.

I also want to use this to improve my writing style and grammar. So any input will be greatly appreciated.

Who am I?

My name is Wesley Lance and I live in Dayton, Ohio. I recently moved into a new apartment
in which my father-in-law and I did the remodeling ourselves. I recently lost my job at Airtran Airways and will soon be working back at Wal-Mart. Currently I only know that I want to do something that has to do with writing for the rest of my life. I have hit many problems along the way but with this new beginning and the help of my wife Robyn I am hoping to turn this all around and organize my life more.

For now this is all I have time for in my post. Thank you for reading.
